DRUGS | PRESENT STATUS

•Drug use and peddling are showing an increasing trend

•100 million substance addicts in the country, India has seen a 70 percent rise in narcotic consumption in the past eight years (UN)

•India – one of the biggest markets for opioids, reported largest seizures for certain synthetic drugs

•Onset of drug use is 16 to 20 years in approx. 50% of users (Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt of India)

•Young children  not spared

•Campuses have turned hot spots …students act as carriers to make money

•Drug use normalized among youngsters

•Result in early sexual involvement, Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), mental health issues, domestic violence, crimes against women and children

PRAY FOR:

•To loosen the grip devil has on the society through drug addiction

•Individuals to have discretion regarding what is harmful for them and the society

•Govt.s and Social activists to prioritize this area

•Police to be more vigilant and effective against drug mafia..protection of sincere police and judicial officers

•Parents and teachers to be sensitive to the gravity of the situation, and respond

•Church to have a burden and train people who can interact with addicts and intervene effectively.
